Matthew Eisemann is a theatrical designer specializing in lighting but with experience in many facets of design including sound, projections and scenery. He resides with his family in the Providence, RI area and works as a freelance designer for schools and organizations in Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts.
Matt began designing lighting for local organizations in high school, with his first full-length credit being a production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast in 2018. In college, Matt continued working with local organizations and spent several years working as an overhire stagehand for a variety of events across Rhode Island. After several years focused exclusively on lighting, Matt began to work in other areas of theatrical design as well. His first projection design credit was designing the chalkboard sequence in Matilda the Musical, a process that started in 2019 but which was not seen by audiences until 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic postponing the production for over two years. Since then, Matt has designed projections for several productions, both for special effects and to enhance existing scenic design. His work has been nominated for two Broadway World Regional Awards, in 2019 and 2022, winning one.
Matt has also worked as a stage manager for both youth and adult theatrical productions, and has several audio credits including creating immersive soundscapes for Radiant Vermin by Philip Ridley (J-DAPA) and working as the playback engineer for musicals with pre-recorded tracks (including live vamps, tempo changes, and more) too many times to count.
When he’s not working in the performing arts, Matt works full-time as a web developer. He is also an experienced actor, vocalist, and musician, bringing a deep understanding of music and performance to his design and technical work. Some of his favorite projects include Matilda the Musical (three separate productions!), School of Rock (J-DAPA), Disney’s Descendants: The Musical (East End), and Radiant Vermin (J-DAPA). Both a portfolio of selected projects and a full resume separated by role are available at the links below.
